Security Management: Keep the bad guys out
In today's world, protection against complex Internet threats is crucial to your environment; this includes blended threats such as the Conficker, Code Red, malicious hackers, and many others. Comprehensive security via centralized management and response solutions is needed for survival, not just an item on a "wish list." Enterprises must be able to ensure an environment conducive to coordinated security management and response.
To gain a better perspective on the security level of your environment, ask yourself these questions:
- What security infrastructure exists today within your environment?
I.E., Firewall, Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Virtual Private Networking (VPN's), Strong or "Two-Factor" Authentication (e.g., RSA tokens), Endpoint Security (Firewall/Intrusion Detection on PC's), E-mail Security (Content filtering, Spam protection, access control, attachment management), etc.
- How do you protect critical data?
- What are the top business initiatives related to protecting information?
- Do these initiatives have executive-level sponsorship?
- Are there any regulatory influences (i.e., HIPAA for Healthcare)? Third-party influences (customers, business partners, insurance, etc.)?
- What type of auditing or assessment has to be done to determine the exposure of data assets to internal and external threats?
- Finding appropriate answers to these questions takes strategy, resolve, and the right security solution.
