Engineer's Info – V9 Sofware License Monitoring TIPS
Importing license date
In the ldmain folder you’ll find the licenseimport.xls file, enter your data in the appropriate fields, license key, serial number, purchase order number, ECT. In the SLM Console, select the License tab, then the Import Button, browse to your file, and then click open. The data will be added to the database. Check out this doc
User Privileges
Inside User Management, is the Software Licensing role. Generally the users who use SLM only need the SLM permissions. Ensure the proper permissions are set, and the users are added to the appropriate Users and Groups.
Download Updates
Ensure SLM ESID Updates is set. SLM ESID is the database of normalized product data that is used by (SLM). In the Patch and Compliance module, select Download updates; place a check in the SLM ESID Updates. You can select to download the updates now, or schedule a download; I think it’s a good idea to schedule the updates for at least once a week.
What version of ESID I have? Why is this important?
There are 2 ways to determine what version of ESID is installed on a core. You can run the following query against your database.
SELECT DESCRIPTION FROM SLM_ESIDVERSIONINFO
This will list the current version of ESID loaded into the database. Next on your core you can look at /ManagementSuite/ldlogon/StandardProductDef. This folder will contain all the ESID data that has been downloaded from patch content. Each file has a version number; the highest version numbered file name is the version of ESID that should be loaded into the database.
From time to time you'll want to check this to make sure you have the latest data to provide accurate data for reports and audits.
Alias
You can associate different versions of a product under one product definition by using a wildcard (*character) in the version number. You can use the wildcard at any level, so you can combine all versions of a product (revisions 1, 2, and 3 with version "*") or all point revisions of a product version (revisions 4.0, 4.1, and 4.5 with version "4.*"). Manufacturer name aliases are now handled by the normalized software product data that is included in this product.
